To evoke systemic change, policies & guidelines should be addressed through an equitable lens. Barriers to accessing care should be properly addressed through inclusive strategic planning and developmental projects that promote equitable care for everyone. Midwifery practice should be anti-racist culturally safe and culturally sensitive. The workforce must have an understanding of the reasons behind lack of trust in the health service amongst diverse communities and the contributing factors towards disparities.
Our training for the maternity workforce addresses all of this in depth and empowers the workforce with the historical and current day knowledge needed in order to break down the complex barriers that contribute towards the current racial disparities we see today in maternity services. We believe that health care professionals should be culturally educated, not culturally trained and the stakes are too high and to important to warrant only an unconscious bias e-learning.
Nya Birth Collective can offer consultancy and action in all of these areas and help your trust’s maternity services towards meaningful change and equitable outcomes.
