Guiding Care, Celebrating Culture, Driving Change
At Nya Birth Collective we are building a future where current racial disparity gaps in maternity outcomes are closed; and every woman and birthing person, no matter their race, religion, culture or background, feels safe and heard when accessing maternity services in the U.K.
Founded by myself, Keelie Grindley, a specialised EDI midwife, educator and advocate, Nya Birth Collective brings together lived experience, clinical & EDI expertise and a true passion for systemic change in maternity services.

I work in the NHS in a role that solely focuses on improving maternity outcomes for diverse groups and marginalised communities, including those of the global majority.
Having recently won the Rising Star award at the Black Maternal Health Awards in March 2025, my work is and always has been ground in anti-racist practice, trauma informed care and a commitment to challenging systemic inequities in perinatal services.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in midwifery, I am an EDI specialist, and a cultural safety and birth equity advocate. I work in both clinical, frontline maternity care settings, as well as my specialist role, that includes developing equitable maternity services, anti-racist, equitable care education for the maternity workforce and influencing change at practice and policy level.
In the U.K., global majority women & birthing people face stark disparities in outcomes compared to white women/birthing people, specifically in regards to maternal mortality, maternal and neonatal morbidity, miscarriage and baby loss.
At Nya Birth Collective we believe that real, significant change can not be achieved without true systemic change from the top down.
Nya Birth Collective offers bespoke services, specifically developed to create real, sustainable change, that actually make a difference:
- Consultancy & Training for NHS Trusts – Anti-racist practice, cultural safety & sensitivity, and how to provide equitable care.
- Antenatal Education, Advocacy, Peer Support & Birth Plan Preparation.
- University Consultancy and Support – Decolonising of the midwifery degree curriculum and embedding inclusive education.
See our Services tab for more information on what we offer to women/birthing people, NHS and universities.
